Malicia is helping in Haiti this semester. We have been conversing back and forth through email and texting since she has been there, I can’t wait to actually meet her and get to know her even better next month! I asked her to share a little about herself and how she decided to come to Haiti:
I go to Sam Houston State University. I am a senior and I will graduate next May. What got me interested in Haiti was when I was in high school I went to youth camp and the pastor has a ministry in Haiti that feeds people and has since grown to other things such as construction I believe. He talked about his ministry that week, that’s when I was first interested in Haiti. When I was a freshmen in college the earthquake hit. I remember telling my dad that I wanted to go and help. A couple years later I went on a week long trip to Grand Goâve, Haiti with Go Now Missions and helped build houses for people who had lost their house in the earthquake and fell in love with the people. That was two summers ago and last fall when I was looking through the Go Now list and saw there was a semester trip to Haiti and read the description of what We Care does and how it fit so well with my heart I began praying about whether or not this is where God wanted me. I talked with my parents and began the application and here I am, in Haiti!
